Broadoak Primary School

Who are the best people to talk to in this school about my child’s difficulties with learning/ Special Educational Needs or Disability (SEND)?

In the first instance, discuss any concerns about your child with the class teacher. The teacher may

  • Check the progress of your child regularly and identify, plan and deliver any additional help your child may need (this could be targeted work or additional support) – making the Special Education Needs/Disabilities Coordinator (SENDCo) aware of this.
  • Personalise teaching and learning for your child and differentiate work appropriately. Ensure that the school’s SEND Policy is followed in their classroom, for all the children they teach with SEND.
  • Create a pupil passport if the child has information which needs to be shared with other members of staff, such as diagnosis, interventions completed and other professionals involved.
  • Set termly targets for Pupil Progress / create Individual Education Plans (IEPs) / Play Plans as necessary, ensuring that they include the advice given by outside agencies and share and review these targets with parents at least once each term.

If further support is required, the SENDCo will become involved. The SENDCo will then be the person who contacts you in most instances. Our school SENDCo (Special Educational Needs and Disability Coordinator) is Mrs Sarah Manson (Non teaching member of staff).

For your information, our SEND Governor is Mrs Heather Medlicott.

  • Mrs Medlicott ensures that the necessary support is given for any child with SEND who attends the school and is involved in SEND developments.
