Rewards
Class Dojo: Children can earn 'dojo points' for any number of positive reasons; such as following the Golden Rules, participating, being on task or working hard. Reasons for being awarded points were chosen by the children during transition days and reflect what they believe makes an effective Year 2 learner.
Star of the day: Each day a child will be chosen for 'star of the day', for working hard that day. Star of the day is worth 5 extra Dojo points!
Star of the week: Each week, children are chosen for 'star of the week' for working hard that week. The award is given in assembly every Friday afternoon.
Fun Friday: On the last Friday of every half term, children will take part in a curriculum enhancement day. Activities such as craft, sport etc will be planned for the children to participate in.
Homework: Homework is handed out every Wednesday and will have an English or Mathematics focus. Please ensure homework is handed in on the following Monday to ensure work can be marked and returned promptly.
Spellings: A key part of the Year 2 National Curriculum is that children are able to write a sentence dictated by the teacher. Every Friday, children will have the opportunity to practise this skill in their spelling books, using their class spelling journals to support them with their spellings. Feel free to support your child at home with their spellings each week but we kindly ask that spelling books are brought back into school every Friday ready for the dictation.
Reading: It is important that the children are read to as often as possible, as this will not only improve their phonics and fluency, but will also improve their access to vocabulary and sight word recognition but this will help their writing and ability to proof read and check their own work - a vital skill in Year Two.
Handwriting: Using the correct formation and terminology at home with your children. Here are some sheets to help you encourage your children with their handwriting at home and the correct terminology.

Reading Support
As children become more fluent readers, our reading sessions in school begin to delve deeper into the texts that we read with the children.
We unpick vocabulary, emotions, thoughts and feelings and begin to make our own predictions around the texts that we read.
These are important discussions to really support the children in their understanding of a text and prepare them for the KS1 SAT's and reading in the juniors.
Here we have a selection of questions based around vocabulary, comprehension (fiction and non-fiction), inference, sequencing and prediction you may use to support your child in their reading at home.
Click on the picture to bring up a different focus. We hope you find them useful!
